The Food Safety Commissioner of Karnataka State has issued the order. Notification in this regard was issued in July.

Restrictions on transportation and sale
According to the order, there will now be a one-year ban on the manufacture, storage, distribution, transportation and sale of tobacco, nicotine-containing gutkha and pan masala in the state.

State Chief Minister DK Shivkumar had hinted at imposing a ban in June. The notification specifically covers gutkha and pan masala, which contain tobacco and nicotine as components. These are packed in pouches, pouches, packages or containers, or sold under any other name.

At the 31st Foundation Day celebrations of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the 'Drug Free India Conference' held at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru in June, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had indicated that he would take strict action soon.
