Paris Saint-Germain are understandably strong favourites for tonight's meeting at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. Having lifted the Champions League just two-and-a-half months ago, PSG are currently the best team in the world, and it is difficult to argue with that.
Aston Villa added more European silverware to their collection by beating Freiburg in the Europa League final, but PSG represent an entirely different level of opposition.
Both starting XIs on the pitch this evening will be 'World Cup-affected'. In other words, a fair number of players in the PSG and Villa squads were involved in this summer's tournament and therefore may either be unavailable or not yet back to full sharpness.
Villa are without Amadou Onana (knee), new signing and World Cup breakout star Johan Manzambi (knee), and Emiliano Martinez (fitness). The side are also having to cope with the £117 million departure of attacking talisman Morgan Rogers to Chelsea. PSG, meanwhile, may also be missing key names, with several of their players having gone deep into the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The French club named a very inexperienced starting XI against Manchester United in their latest friendly last weekend, but one player who completed the full 90 minutes and should be among the freshest men on the pitch is Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves each played half an hour in that 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, August 8, so their involvement is also expected.
What is more, each of the last seven Super Cup finals has been won by the team that claimed the previous season's Champions League, so Villa face a huge task if that was not already obvious.
Unfortunately for Villa supporters, at FourFourTwo HQ we cannot see any result other than a PSG victory. The reigning European champions are simply too powerful and too well stocked in most areas of the pitch.
We do expect goals, though, with this match carrying the feel of a late pre-season contest.
