LPG Rates Today (August 13, 2026): Tensions between the US and Iran are escalating once again, impacting crude oil prices. However, LPG prices in the country remain stable for now.
LPG Rates Today (August 13, 2026): Amidst rising tensions between the US and Iran, concerns regarding LPG prices persist, even though it has been over a month since retail prices were last revised. However, a severe missile attack on a cargo ship by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels near the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea has sparked fresh concerns.
This marks the first major attack by the Houthi group in the Red Sea since the conflict between the US and Iran began. The Houthis claim they were targeting only ships linked to Saudi Arabia that were transporting military equipment. However, media reports suggest the vessels were carrying food items and other commercial goods. This tension has now severely disrupted this shipping route.

At the beginning of August, the price of commercial cylinders was slashed by ₹192, providing relief to hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments ahead of the festive season. However, domestic LPG is still being sold below cost.
Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, stated that the revenue loss incurred by state-run fuel retailers on the sale of LPG (used as cooking fuel) was ₹500 per 14.2 kg cylinder in July; this figure dropped to ₹188 per cylinder in August. Meanwhile, LPG sales in India have fallen by 17.4% to 2.37 million tonnes.
Industry officials believe that the primary reason for this decline is the growing preference for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) amidst the crisis in West Asia.
