The Last House is Netflix’s new science fiction movie about a family trapped inside their home. The story follows Jason Delgado and his family after a strange storm creates a mysterious barrier around their Seattle home. During this time, Jason’s daughter, Ruth, looks different after the time jump because the story follows her as she grows older.

Why does Ruth look so different after The Last House’s time jump?

Ruth is played by different actresses at different stages of her life. Riley Chung plays the youngest version of Ruth when the family first becomes trapped inside their home. At this point, Ruth is still a child dealing with the strange situation surrounding her family.

As the years pass, Ruth grows into a teenager. Emma Ho takes over the role during this part of the story. Her version of Ruth has spent years trapped inside the house with her family. Arden Cho provides the voice for adult Ruth.

She acts as the unseen narrator and looks back on the family’s difficult survival story. The time jump happens because the family remains trapped for several years. They cannot open the doors or windows as a water-like barrier surrounds the house, preventing the doors and windows from opening and stopping the family from escaping, while strange sea creatures appear whenever it rains.

The rising water also makes their home increasingly dangerous, and their food and water supplies begin to run out. Five years later, Jason and his family finally find a way to escape. Jason chooses not to kill one of the creatures, allowing them to leave.

The family escapes Seattle on a boat and eventually discovers other survivors. The movie stars Wagner Moura as Jason Delgado, Greta Lee, Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbos.
