Nashik : While Maharashtra is known as the 'growth engine' of the country, shocking information has come out that as many as 36 thousand 211 private companies in the state have closed down in the last five years. The figures were revealed in a written reply given by the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs in the Lok Sabha. Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje raised a question about the current status of companies in Maharashtra. The central government gave this information.

Although a large number of companies have closed down in the state, the exact reasons behind it, how much employment was available in these companies and how many people's employment has been affected due to the closure of the companies, is yet to come out. Hence questions are being raised about the local employment status along with the industrial environment of the state.

According to central government data, the city of Mumbai has been hit the hardest by company closures. As many as 12 thousand 9 companies have closed down in Mumbai. After that, 6 thousand 433 companies have closed in Pune, 4 thousand 704 in Thane, 1 thousand 478 in Nagpur, 840 in Nashik, 822 in Raigad and 654 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Business sector is the worst hit

Looking at sector wise statistics, there are 4 thousand 196 companies in trade sector, 2 thousand 356 in construction sector and 1 thousand 178 companies in agriculture sector. Statistics show that a large number of companies have closed down in services and other sectors as well. Meanwhile, MLA Rohit Pawar has targeted the state government over this issue. He accused the rulers of neglecting important issues like industry, employment, education and health in Maharashtra.

industry closures; What about workers?

Did the workers get legal dues after the companies closed down? How many workers received provident fund, gratuity and salary arrears? Is there a special rehabilitation scheme for affected workers? Answers to these questions were sought from the Centre. However, the central government clarified that the information of workers affected by the shutdown of private companies is not maintained with the ministry.

How many new industries have come, where is the answer?

The government has also drawn attention to the reality of creation of new industries and employment growth. How many new industries came up in Maharashtra in the last five years? How many new companies were formed? How much was invested? How many jobs were created? When asked about the number of new industries compared to closed companies, the answer was not given. Therefore, the claim that 'industries are coming to Maharashtra on a large scale' is false.
