Seat belts continue to be among the most important safety features available to people inside a vehicle, provided they are worn correctly and, naturally, are functioning as intended. However, a large number of Ram pickup trucks may have seat belts that do not work properly, according to a fresh recall announced by Stellantis.

The recall, announced on July 31, covers more than 1.27 million 2019–2026 Ram 1500 units across America that may have been manufactured with a second-row centre and/or second-row driver-side seat belt buckle anchor that was not properly secured to the vehicle body structure. Ram says that in certain crash situations, the effectiveness of the second-row seat belts could be compromised, raising the risk of injury.

According to Reuters, Stellantis is aware of one injury that may be linked to this recall. The automaker has said there have been no related fatalities. The recall extends beyond the United States as well, covering 156,000 units in Canada, 15,000 units in Mexico, and around 75,000 units outside North America, taking the total number of affected trucks to more than 1.5 million.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Stellantis, Ram’s parent company, and asked to get in touch with their local dealer to schedule an inspection. Dealers will examine the second-row centre and second-row driver-side seat belt buckle anchor and, if required, properly secure it to the vehicle’s body structure. This work will be carried out free of charge.

This is not the first Ram-related recall in 2026. Earlier this year, the truckmaker recalled roughly 12,000 units of its 2500-series Heavy Duty pickup because of incorrect vehicle speed calibration systems that could allow the pickup to go beyond the maximum tyre speed rating. To address the issue, the automaker reprogrammed the powertrain control module in the affected vehicles so that top speed remains within tyre limits.
