In July 2026, the Indian mutual fund industry set a new record. Net investment inflows reached an all-time high of ₹ 85.75 lakh crore on account of sustained growth in investor confidence. As reported by GEPL Capital, net investment inflows in July increased by around 4.30% compared to June. Meanwhile, mutual fund net AUM has also grown by around 13.80% in the last one year.
Corporates are at the forefront of mutual fund investment. They account for around 37.17% of total mutual fund assets. High net worth individuals (HNIs) are second, accounting for 33.83%. Retail investors hold around 27% stake. Banks and financial institutions account for around 1.92%, and FPIs and FIIs account for only 0.07%.
In terms of asset class, equity and balanced funds are most preferred. Their combined share in total mutual fund assets is around 61.06%. This is followed by ETFs and funds of funds at 14.01%, liquid and money market funds at 13.37% and debt funds excluding liquid and money market funds at around 11.57%.
Investor interest in equity funds remained strong in July. This segment recorded a net investment inflow of ₹ 24,697 crore. Small-cap funds led the way with net inflows of ₹ 7,768 crore in July. It was followed by mid-cap funds with ₹6,192 crore, flexicap funds with ₹4,709 crore, large- and mid-cap funds with ₹3,425 crore and multi-cap funds with ₹3,227 crore.
Increasing investor confidence
The data shows that investors are investing in mutual funds across different categories. Strong investment flows, particularly in segments such as small-cap and mid-cap, continue to reflect investor interest in market-linked investment options. However, mutual fund investments are subject to market risk, so it is important to consider your goals and risk appetite before investing.
