India’s 80th Independence Day is just around the corner. As it has done in recent years, Mahindra is planning a big reveal and launch event on the occasion. This time, the event will run for three days. So, we can expect several new product reveals and launches. Here is more about what to expect.

Mahindra is preparing a new lifestyle pickup truck based on the Scorpio-N. Essentially the production form of the Global Pik-Up Concept shown in South Africa in 2023, this vehicle will be underpinned by a stretched out and heavily re-engineered version of the Scorpio-N’s ladder-frame platform. The carmaker has put out a video teaser of the truck, indicating it is nearing production. Mahindra will officially reveal it on August 14th.

The vehicle has been spotted testing on Indian roads multiple times. From previous sightings, it looks like both single-cab and double-cab versions would be made available. The single-cab version will have a stretched-out load bed. When launched, the Scorpio-N-based truck will rival the new, 9th generation Toyota Hilux. The Hilux only comes with a double cabin configuration in India.

The exterior design is expected to borrow heavily from the Scorpio-N. The recent video teaser has confirmed the same. The truck may come with differentiating cues as well- like a bolder grille section and different wheels. The teaser also shows that the truck will have a modern, technology-rich cabin. The overall material quality and finish will be top-notch.

The familiar engines will be retained on the truck as well- 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol making 203hp and the 2.2-litre diesel producing 175hp. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be offered and there will be a 4-wheel drive system as well.

As confirmed by another video teaser, Mahindra will also launch a new SPORTEQ variant of the BE6 electric SUV. Expected to debut on August 15, this version will have a more practical cabin design than the conventional BE6. The most important changes will be inside the cabin. The electric SUV will see the addition of a triple screen cluster. At present, the XEV 9e and 9S come with triple screens.

The SPORTEQ variant will also come with a redesigned dashboard. It will ditch the large, halo-like partition between the driver and passenger areas. This will improve the driver’s access to the passenger side and to the wireless charging pad and USB ports. This change is likely based on customer feedback. The upholstery and colour options are also expected to be updated on the new model. The SPORTEQ variant is likely to be based on the range-topping BE6 trim.

It will be underpinned by the INGLO platform and will likely offer the two familiar battery packs- 59kWh mated to a 228hp electric motor and a 79kWh paired with a 286hp motor. The claimed MIDC range figures of the bigger battery is 683km. There are also rumours suggesting that Mahindra may introduce the much-awaited 70kWh battery on the BE6. However, it remains to be seen if these would hold true. At present, the range-topping BE6 variant (Pack THREE 79kWh) costs Rs 26.9 lakh, ex-showroom. The SPORTEQ is likely to sit above this.

We also expect Mahindra to showcase a closer-to-production version of the BE07 electric SUV. This will also belong to the Electric Origin family and will be underpinned by the INGLO platform. Spy sightings have increased in the recent past, pointing to an imminent market launch/ reveal.

The production-spec BE07 is expected to be a larger, more civil version of the BE6. Going by spy sightings, it will have a silhouette that distantly resembles those of Range Rover Velar and Evoque. The electric SUV will have LED headlamps, LED DRLs, closed-off grille, and air dams on the lower bumper. It will also come with chunky side cladding, likely to be finished in Gloss Black. The EV will ride on large alloy wheels. Test mule sightings have also revealed that this electric SUV will have frameless doors.

The cabin will look modern and will be tech-laden. It will come with features like the 12.3-inch triple-screen setup, dual-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof and more. Details on this front continue to be limited. We expect the production-spec BE07 to come with three battery pack options- 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh.

And finally, Mahindra is also likely to show the production form of the Vision S SUV this independence day. The Vision S been undergoing road trials for a very long time, and we believe it is finally time to see it in flesh. The production form will stay true to the original concept in terms of design. It will have a bold design and SUV-like stance. The cabin will be modern and tech-packed. The Vision S is based on Mahindra’s new-age NU_IQ platform. The SUV is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a turbo-diesel engine. It may also get hybrid and electric versions in the future.
