According to Jagran correspondent from Prayagraj, Indian Railways has made the promotion process more simple for lakhs of its employees. After the new order of the Railway Board, now the employees have been given a big relief in the rules requiring completion of two years of service for promotion. Have the promotion rules changed?

Till now, to get promotion to a higher post, it was mandatory for any employee to give at least two years of regular service in a lower post. However, there was often confusion regarding the date by which this two-year period should be completed. Many times, employees were considered ineligible if two years had not been completed on the day the process started.

To remove this complexity, the Railway Board has issued a new order on August 10 clarifying that in selection posts (based on written examination and merit) the condition of two years of service should be fulfilled within 15 months, while in non-selection posts (based on seniority and service record) this condition should be fulfilled within the vacancy evaluation cycle of 12 months. Further, if an employee has given adhoc service without any break before regular appointment, that period will also be added to the minimum service of two years.

Senior employees will also get direct benefits

Under the new rules, if a junior employee becomes eligible for promotion, the senior employee will automatically be considered eligible for promotion, even if that senior employee has not completed two years of total service in the lower post. Deputy Director Establishment Ajay Goyal has clarified that old closed cases will not be reopened, but this new rule will be fully applicable to all current and upcoming promotion processes.
