Students associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demonstrated outside Jharkhand Bhawan in Delhi on Thursday in protest against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand and police action against students. During the protest, students broke the barricades, after which security arrangements were increased at the spot.
Demonstration against police action in Jharkhand
ABVP alleges that the police used force on students who were protesting peacefully for their demands in Jharkhand. Lathi charge, water cannon and tear gas shells were reportedly used against the protesters. In protest against this action, ABVP called for a demonstration outside Jharkhand Bhawan in Delhi.
Students' agitation continues for the 20th day
In Jharkhand, students and candidates are agitating since July 25 under the leadership of JPSC-JSSC Reforms Forum. The ongoing movement demanding transparency and alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations has now entered its 20th day.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, the protesters had taken out a silent procession from Ranchi's Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk. This procession was also part of the students' movement.
What are the main demands of the students?
The major demands of the protesting students include transparency in recruitment examinations, improvement in the functioning of JPSC and JSSC, cancellation of some examinations and an independent investigation into the entire matter. The students are also demanding an investigation by CBI or a committee of retired High Court judges outside the state.
Six protesters on hunger strike
Six protesters are on an indefinite hunger strike to press for their demands. Two of them have been admitted to the hospital after their health deteriorated.
On Sunday, the sixth round of talks was held between the representatives of JPSC-JSSC Reforms Forum and the Jharkhand government, but no concrete solution could be emerged from the talks. After this, both the parties accused each other of not showing seriousness in resolving the matter.
