Madhuri Dixit Nene wore a strapless corset and matching floor-length skirt by designer  for a recent public appearance, which will remind you of the occasion-wear aesthetic of the early aughts. The corset brought a classic feel to the look, while the skirt gave the set a contemporary edge. The corset top was covered in floral and paisley embroidery in shades of gold, pink and orange. The skirt followed a mermaid silhouette, with embroidery scattered along the length and larger motifs appearing towards the lower portion. Together, the corset and skirt created the effect of a single, elongated gown. She also carried a sheer blue stole featuring embroidered motifs, wrapping it around her arms and letting the ends fall freely by her sides. Styled by Vani Gupta and Sukriti Grover, the two-piece was paired with PNG jewellery: a diamond necklace with emerald-green , rose-gold diamond studs and stacked diamond rings. Billy Manik gave Nene winged eyeliner, fluttery lashes and a nude lip, while Sheetal F Khan styled her hair in brushed-back, loose waves.

"This Dolly J number feels nostalgically Y2K and incredibly contemporary at the same time. You could easily repurpose an old chiffon sari into a corset gown, adapting the skirt to your body shape. For a pear-shaped body, choose a diaphanous, lehenga-inspired skirt that draws attention to and balances the upper body. For an hourglass figure, a fitted mermaid silhouette, akin to Madhuri’s, would beautifully accentuate the curves. Pair it with strappy  s or a classic Kolhapuri-style footwear, kohled eyes and perhaps a touch of jewellery woven into the hair. Keep the ears simple—the look should do most of the talking," says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
