Tekton Beats Magnite, Gravite To Become Nissan India’s Best Selling Car

Nissan’s newest model has become its best-selling car in its first month. The Tekton recorded 1,670 wholesale dispatches in July 2026, ahead of the Magnite at 1,462 units and the Gravite at 1,386 units. It accounted for 37 per cent of Nissan’s domestic volume during the month.

That is a useful start because the Tekton was launched only on July 9, with customer deliveries beginning on July 20. Nissan’s total domestic dispatches reached 4,518 units in July, up 218 per cent from 1,420 units a year earlier and 50 per cent from 3,006 units in June.

The percentage growth looks dramatic partly because Nissan had a very small base last year, when it depended almost entirely on the Magnite. The more important change is that all three locally sold models are now contributing meaningful volume instead of one car carrying the entire brand.

The Tekton’s 1,670 units gave it a narrow but clear lead over the Magnite. The compact SUV still managed 1,462 units, which was 3 per cent higher than July 2025 and 25 per cent above its June 2026 volume of 1,167 units.

Gravite finished third at 1,386 units. Its July number was 25 per cent lower than the 1,839 units dispatched in June and well below its March peak of 2,375 units. That makes the Tekton’s arrival useful for Nissan because it has added volume at a time when the initial Gravite surge has started to settle.

The shift is visible in Nissan’s monthly averages as well. Domestic dispatches averaged 2,025 units a month in FY2026. In the first four months of FY2027, that average has risen to 3,418 units. July alone was more than double the previous financial year’s monthly average.

The Tekton starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and goes up to around Rs 18.50 lakh, ex-showroom. It is offered with two turbo-petrol engines rather than diesel or hybrid options. The 1.0-litre T160 produces about 100 PS and is paired with a six-speed manual, while the 1.3-litre T280 makes 163 PS and 280 Nm and can be had with a six-speed manual or wet-clutch DCT.

That puts the Tekton directly into the crowded midsize SUV segment occupied by the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Tata Sierra, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Renault Duster.

Equipment includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on higher variants. The Tekton has also secured a five-star Bharat NCAP rating.

For Nissan, becoming the brand’s number-one model is useful because the company spent years trying to sustain its dealer network with essentially one high-volume product. Tekton, Magnite and Gravite split July sales almost evenly at 37, 32 and 31 per cent respectively. That is a healthier mix than relying on a single model.

The challenge is scale. The Tekton competes in one of the most crowded parts of the car market, where established rivals offer petrol, diesel, hybrid and sometimes EV options along with much larger dealer networks. Its July performance is a solid opening rather than proof of sustained demand.

Still, 1,670 units in the first month gives Nissan something it has not had for a long time: a new model that immediately sells more than the Magnite. If the Tekton can hold close to this volume after the launch pipeline clears, Nissan’s three-car recovery will start looking far more credible. We’re watching closely.
