Patna. Following the Bihar government’s decision to provide financial assistance and a government job to a family member of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, Jan Suraj Party chief and MLA Prashant Kishore said the decision is a positive step but does not provide complete justice. He argued that real justice requires identifying and taking action against those who allegedly ordered and carried out the firing.
He said the judicial inquiry must fix individual responsibility and ensure that those found guilty are punished as per law. Kishor also raised the question as to why similar assistance should not be extended to the families of other youth killed in police encounters. Referring specifically to Bunty Yadav’s family, he argued that relief should not be limited to one case for political reasons.
This statement of Prashant Kishore came after meeting the residents of Ward No. 16 of Bankipur Assembly constituency of Patna and thanking the voters for his decisive victory. Supporters celebrated by weighing him with laddus, after which Kishor addressed the gathering. He said a government job and financial compensation alone cannot save a family from the grief of losing a loved one. He stressed that a far more important issue was to fix accountability for alleged police actions.
Kishor also used the occasion to attack Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and claimed that the Bankipur election result has changed the government’s approach towards encounters. He alleged that there is more pressure on the government now to answer questions to police encounters. He said the Bankipur result had contributed to the government’s decision regarding Tiwari’s family.
Kishore also expressed concern over the fees of private schools, alleging that the high fees, including expenses to re-admission and uniforms, were becoming a burden on families. He said he planned to meet school administrators and work towards reducing the fees, as the issue of children’s education is one of his priorities. Kishore promised that the quality in government schools in the Bankipur area would improve by Dussehra next year.
He said that if the promised reforms do not materialize, he will take upon himself the responsibility of enrolling the children of the affected families in private schools and paying their fees. Kishor also reiterated his commitment towards employment in Bankipur. He said that he intends to employ at least one educated person from each of the 10,000 families in the constituency, especially targeting the educated youth who are currently unemployed.
