Currently, a message and video is going viral on social media platforms that the central government is giving 1 year free mobile recharge to women across the country and to the ‘beloved sisters’ of the state on the occasion of Independence Day. However, after the official investigation, it has become clear that this claim is completely false, and the administration has appealed to the citizens not to fall prey to any such fraudulent link.

A video made by abusing ‘deepfake’ technology

A video has been widely shared on WhatsApp and Instagram for the past few days. In this video Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen announcing free recharge with free data and unlimited calling for 1 year to women on the occasion of Independence Day. This created confusion among the common citizens. However, it has been revealed that the video was digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) and ‘deepfake’ technology. Some sociopaths are fueling this rumor by misusing the name of the very popular scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ which is currently popular in Maharashtra. As per the official norms of the state government, direct financial assistance of Rs 1500 per month is deposited in the bank account of only eligible women under this scheme.
