Good news for foreign tourists coming to India! Now entry will also be available from Attari border; Know Visa Rules'

  • A major change has been made in the entry system for e-Visa.

  • However, some citizens have not yet been exempted in these new rules.

Good news for foreign tourists. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has made some important changes in the e-Visa rules which can benefit tourists visiting India for tourism. Central Government of India e-Visa Entry through the Attari border has been opened for foreign nationals. This means foreign tourists who have a valid visa can now enter India through the Attari border.

Considering the convenience of foreign visitors, the Government of India has increased the number of entry points to e-visa. Attari border with 2 airports and 9 land ports has also been included in this new expansion. After this decision, there are now a total of 88 entry points across the country from where visa holders will be allowed to enter India.

What are the rules for Pakistani citizens?

Although this facility has been launched by the Indian government for foreign tourists, Pakistani citizens cannot avail it. This facility is not applicable to Pakistani tourists having passport, visa, Indian government does not issue e-visa for them. According to the official portal, these people will have to apply for a regular visa by contacting the Indian Embassy as before. All eligible foreign travelers from 174 other countries, including Canada, Russia, Greece and Japan, can avail the new route.

Is entry guaranteed with an e-Visa?

Before travelling, note that mere approval of e-Visa does not guarantee you entry from any border in India. Tourists have to follow all the rules written on their visa. Check your visa validity before starting your journey. It will mention the official entry points from where entry into India will be granted.

The work will be done in 72 hours

Currently, the Government of India provides e-visas under a total of 17 different categories including Medical, Tourist, Student, Transit, Cruise, Group Travel and Mountaineering. The specialty of this entire process is that around 95% of applications are processed within 72 hours only. Opening entry from places like the Attari border will now make it easier for foreign tourists to travel to India.
