Census 2027: Regarding Census 2027, the Central Government has prepared 40 questions for the population enumeration phase. This time’s census will be important in many ways, because for the first time information to caste will also be recorded in it. Apart from this, questions to SC, ST, religion, education, employment, migration and digital literacy will also be asked.

According to the government order, during the census, information like location of Covid-19 vaccine, number of bank accounts, mobile number, Aadhar, Voter ID and passport will also be asked from the people. The entire population census will be conducted digitally.

What new is going to happen for the first time?

The biggest feature of Census 2027 is the inclusion of caste information. This time the government has included questions to caste in the questionnaire. According to sources, there is no possibility of any list of castes being given in advance in the questionnaire. The information given by the person about his caste will be recorded accordingly. The decision to include caste enumeration was taken by the Political Affairs Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 30, 2025.

What information will be recorded in 40 questions?

According to the government notification, census officers can ask 40 different questions to people through the family schedule. These will include information to personal, social, educational and economic status. The marital status of people will be recorded in the census. Along with this, information to age at the time of marriage, name of husband or wife and nationality will also be taken. Apart from this, there will also be questions about religion, status of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and caste.

What will be the questions regarding parents and education?

Information to parents will also be entered under personal details. In the census, it will also be asked whether the person is to any disability or not. In language questions, information will be taken about mother tongue and other languages ​​known to the person. Literacy and digital literacy will also be part of the questionnaire.

Census workers will also collect information from people about their education. In this it will be asked whether the person is studying in any educational institution or not. Apart from this, details to his highest educational qualification, stream of education and subject will also be recorded.

What about employment and work?

Many important questions to employment will be asked in the census. An attempt will be made to find out from the person whether he had worked at any time during the last one year or not. For workers, information to the category of economic activity, occupation, industry, nature of trade or service and labor class will be recorded.

Marginal, semi-marginal and non-laborers will be asked about their participation in non-economic activities. It will also be recorded whether they are available to work or not. The census will also include a question on whether a person travels to his workplace or not.

What about birthplace and migration?

There will also be special emphasis on information to migration in Census 2027. People will be asked their birthplace and last residence. Apart from this, information about the reason for migration, the period of stay in the village or city after the last change of place and the permanent residential address of the person will also be recorded.

What will be the questions to children?

Information about the number of living children will be taken from currently married, widowed, divorced and separated women. Apart from this, the number of children born from the current marriage and the number of children born alive in the last one year will also be recorded.

When will the census be held?

According to the report, population census in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand along with Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir will start from September 1 and will continue till September 30. Apart from this, the phase of population census in the rest of the country will start next year.
