Age of 88, waiting for 53 years…spending his life in the hope of getting Padma Shri, former cricketer expressed his pain

Farooq Engineer: Former Indian cricketer Farooq Engineer has been waiting to receive the Padma Shri award for the last 53 years. The engineer was a part of the Indian team at that time and was playing international cricket, when he got the information about being awarded Padma Shri by the government. However, the engineer, who has reached the age of 88, says that till date he has not received any official information from the government regarding this honour.

The engineer told in an interview that he was with the Indian team in England at that time. Team manager Hemu Adhikari had told him that his name had been declared for Padma Shri. In those times, newspapers were the major medium of information. The engineer had told the officer that he had not received any letter from the government. He was assured that official information would be given soon; But this never happened.

Also talked to Arun Jaitley and Jai Shah
Farooq Engineer told that he had also raised this matter before former Union Minister and former BCCI Vice President Arun Jaitley. However, even after his death the matter could not be resolved. Recently the engineer contacted Jai Shah. The ICC Chairman has assured him of help. The engineer said that more than 50 years have passed, so he decided to raise the issue once again.

Hope to get honor at the age of 88
The England-based engineer said that Padma Shri is still very special for him; He wants to be given this honor by calling him to Rashtrapati Bhavan. He said that he has turned 88 years old and now hopes to get the award as soon as possible. Engineer played 46 Tests and five ODIs for India between 1961 and 1975. BCCI has also taken cognizance of his claim and it is believed that it may soon contact the government in this matter.
