Yamaha has started pre-booking of its new R2 supersport bike in India. It can be booked by paying a token amount of ₹10,000. The company is going to launch this bike in India on August 27, 2026. The Yamaha R2 will be positioned above the company's existing R15 model. One thing to note is that if you change your mind after booking, the entire amount of ₹10,000 will be refunded. According to the company, the refund process will start after September 5, 2026. Customers who book before launch will also be given priority in delivery.
**Possibility of engine larger than 200cc**
No information has been revealed yet about the exact engine capacity of Yamaha R2. However, it is estimated that it may have a single-cylinder engine slightly larger than 200cc. In terms of power, this bike is expected to give a tough competition to other models in its segment and its output will be around 25 bhp. To improve performance and handling, efforts can also be made to reduce the weight of the bike. For comparison, the KTM RC 200 weighs 160 kg, while the Hero Karizma XMR weighs 163.5 kg.
**The new Yamaha R2 will be positioned above the R15**
The Yamaha R2 is not being introduced to replace the R15; Rather, it will take its place above the R15 in the company's lineup. However, Yamaha may reduce its existing R15 range. It is believed that the R15 M may be discontinued, and the R15 S, based on the third generation R15, may also be phased out. Currently, the R15 is priced between ₹1.57 lakh to ₹1.98 lakh.
**Yamaha R2 will be made in India**
Yamaha R2 will be manufactured in India. After being manufactured here, it will also be exported to other international markets, making India a major production hub for this Yamaha bike.
What could be its price? Yamaha R2 is expected to be priced between ₹2 lakh to ₹2.20 lakh; However, the company has not yet announced its official price. In the entry-level supersport segment, it will compete directly with bikes like Hero Karizma XMR and KTM RC 200. If Yamaha launches the R2 with lighter weight, around 25 bhp power and a sporty design, it could become a new option for customers who want to upgrade from the R15.
