New Delhi, August 14 (IANS). 100 beneficiaries of 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme from Delhi-NCR region have been invited as special guests to witness the 80th Independence Day celebrations to be held at the Red Fort here. This information was given in an official statement on Friday.
According to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), these beneficiaries will attend the national function along with their spouse or accompanying person.
The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said that the special guests also include women artisans associated with various traditional professions. The scheme pays special attention to promoting economic empowerment of women, strengthening their livelihood opportunities and preserving the traditional handicrafts and cultural heritage of India.
As part of their participation in the function, mementos will also be presented to these beneficiaries as a token of respect and appreciation.
'PM Vishwakarma' scheme is one of the major initiatives of the government, which was launched with the objective of providing comprehensive assistance to artisans and craftsmen engaged in traditional occupations.
Under this scheme, artisans and craftsmen are provided help through skill upgradation, modern equipment, financial assistance, digital facilities and market linkages. It aims to provide socio-economic empowerment of artisans, strengthen traditional crafts and ensure sustainable livelihood opportunities.
According to the government, so far 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftsmen have been registered under this scheme.
The beneficiaries invited for the Independence Day celebrations represent 18 traditional occupations covered under the 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme. These include people engaged in other traditional professions including tailors, carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths and locksmiths.
Moreover, the invited beneficiaries have availed various facilities available under the scheme. These include registration, basic skills training and toolkits as well as other support available under the programme.
The ministry said the participation of beneficiaries of the 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme in the Independence Day celebrations is in recognition of the contribution of traditional artisans and craftsmen to India's cultural heritage.
The ministry said that the presence of these beneficiaries at the Red Fort will give them an opportunity to witness the 80th Independence Day celebrations firsthand and participate in the national event.
