Cab Booking New Rule: If you use Cab Booking Apps like Ola, Uber then this is important news for you. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has directed Motor Vehicle Aggregators to remove the feature and prompt asking for advance tip while booking a cab or before starting the journey from the app. Now if the passenger wants to give a tip to the driver, then this option should be given only after the ride is completed.
According to the government, options like “Choose an Add-on” or Advance Tip during cab booking can confuse passengers. Some passengers may feel that by giving advance tip the driver will accept their ride sooner or their booking will get priority. For this reason, the government has directed to remove the feature of asking for tip before starting the journey.
Tip option only after completion of ride (Cab Booking New Rule)
As per the instructions of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the option of tip should be made available after the completion of the journey. Motor Vehicle Aggregators have been asked to review all their Digital Platforms and Mobile Applications and follow Section 14.15 of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.
This means that passengers should not be prompted to tip when booking a cab or before the journey begins. Passengers will be able to give tip as per their wish after the ride is over.
Driver will get full amount of tip
The government has also made it clear that if passengers want to give a tip after the ride is over, it will completely be their choice. Giving tip will not be mandatory.
The special thing is that the Cab Aggregator company will not be able to take any commission on the tip given by the passenger to the driver. The entire amount of tip should go to the driver's account.
Why was this decision taken?
The government believes that the option of advance tip before the ride can create confusion for the passengers. Many passengers may feel that by giving a tip, their ride will be confirmed sooner or the driver will accept the booking sooner. Therefore, having the option of giving tip after the travel experience is considered more transparent.
