Katehari (Ambedkarnagar): A major case of administrative negligence has come to light in Basantpur cluster of Katehari development block. No secretary has been posted here for more than a month. Due to this serious negligence, the development work of all the gram sabhas under the cluster has completely come to a standstill. The biggest hit is falling on those common citizens who are making rounds of government offices for their important documents.
21 day deadline passed, now people are forced to run for tehsil
According to the rules, birth and death certificates should be made easily at the block level within 21 days of application. Due to absence of a secretary, this deadline has been exceeded. Now the people trapped in the rules will have to make rounds of the tehsil for these certificates. The work which could have been done easily at the village and block level has now become a huge problem for the common people due to the laziness of the officers.
DPRO's hollow assurances, getting only 'date after date' since last 15 days
When the District Panchayat Raj Officer (DPRO) was contacted regarding this serious problem, only hollow assurances were being received for the last 15 days. Every time the DPRO gives the same rote answer on the phone that “the work will be done today” or “the secretary will be posted tomorrow”. But the reality is that till date Basantpur Cluster has not got any secretary. There is a lot of anger among the local villagers due to this irresponsible attitude of the officers. The direct question of the public is that why should the common citizens bear the brunt of this laziness and carelessness of the officers?
