A wild eye shines in the desert night. The secret movement of nocturnal animals pierces the silence of Baliari. This time Asia is going to witness such a thrilling experience. The continent's first desert-themed night safari and zoo is set to come up at Juna Disha in Gujarat's Banaskanta district. The mysterious door of this wild world will open only after dark. However, the zoo will be open to the public during the day.
Recently the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has approved this mega project. According to Gujarat Forest Department sources, this 'Desert Geological Park' will be built on 103 hectares of government land. Tourists can enjoy night safari in this park built at a cost of around 542 crores 14 lakhs.
The biggest attraction is the drive-thru night safari directly into the forest. Five special enclosures are being constructed to observe the natural behavior of nocturnal wildlife. What is a typical zoo atmosphere during the day, turns into a mystical experience at night.
A total of 2700 animals of about 83 species will be kept in the park. Indian tigers, blackbucks, wild donkeys, Asiatic lions and leopards can be found alongside desert harriers, jackals, hyenas, sloth bears and rare species of caracals.
Not only native wildlife, foreign guests are also being brought to maintain international standards. Africa's continental wilderness will include African cheetahs, lions, Angolan giraffes, springboks and ostriches. In addition, the presence of kangaroos, emu and wallabies will give an Australian touch.
Not just evening safaris, there are rainforest biomes, huge aquariums, aviaries or birdhouses, reptile parks and butterfly gardens to diversify the tourist itinerary. Separate free zones are being arranged for herbivores and carnivores. From golf cart services to modern food courts and souvenir sales centers are also planned to make the entire tour comfortable.
Apart from tourism, the park will also become a major center for conservation of endangered species, wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education. Juna Disha's desert park is about to open a new chapter in wildlife tourism in India with a wonderful blend of environment and technology.
