Digital Desk, New Delhi. Delhi University has made some major changes in the postgraduate history syllabus. An important subject to Delhi Sultanate will not be taught in the new syllabus. This change is part of the new syllabus to be implemented from July 2026. This subject was taught about governance, power and state system in the Delhi Sultanate during the 13th and 14th centuries. Apart from this, some other topics to the history of North India have also not been kept in the new syllabus. The university has made this change under the new education policy and new PG education structure.
Many old subjects removed
The subject named Delhi Sultanate: Structure of power in medieval North India has been removed from the new syllabus of the third session. In this, how the state was run during the time of Delhi Sultanate, how the rulers used power and what was the system of governance were studied. In this the political, religious and social changes of that time were also explained. Along with this, the subject of History of North India, approximately 1400 to 1550, has also not been kept in the new third session.
Many proposed subjects also did not get place
Changes are not limited to medieval history alone. Some other topics also not included in the final list include the history of women and gender in early India, the political system in ancient India, and religion and society in ancient Indian literature. The History Department has suggested a total of 38 special optional subjects for the third session. Of these, only 16 subjects have found a place in the final syllabus and the rest are not part of the list.

UG and PG studies are separate
The removed subject of Delhi Sultanate was different from the history of the same period taught at the undergraduate level. Under this subject in Masters, more attention was given to different ways of looking at power, governance and history. At the graduation level, a general and detailed introduction to the entire period of Delhi Sultanate is given. Therefore, the removal of the subject from Masters does not mean that the history of Delhi Sultanate has been completely left out of university studies.
