President Draupadi Murmu, in his address to the nation on Friday on the eve of Independence Day, mentioned India's economic progress, self-reliance and rapidly developing digital and physical infrastructure. He said that despite war and instability in many parts of the world, India's economy is growing rapidly.
The President said that according to economic projections, India's growth rate is expected to be more than double the world's average growth rate. He said that the 'Self-reliant India' campaign has strengthened the foundation of the country's economic progress and national security.
'Economy growing rapidly even amidst global instability'
President Murmu said that war and instability in many areas of the world is affecting all the countries. Even under such circumstances, India is growing as the fastest growing major economy. He said that development based on cultural self-confidence is more dynamic and sustainable. The President also mentioned the free trade agreements signed with many countries in recent times to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen mutual relations.
India's increased role in the Global South
The President said that India is playing a leading role among the countries of the Global South. He also underlined the country's economic potential and growing influence at the international level. He said that self-reliance is not only a medium for economic development, but it also plays an important role in strengthening national security.
Digital payment from village shops to street vendors
Referring to the rapid digital development in the country, President Murmu said that digital payments are being made even at small shops and street vendors in villages. He said that more than half of the real-time digital transactions taking place in the world are taking place in India. The President described this as an example of digital revolution by the countrymen and the government together. He said that through technology, the government has provided public welfare facilities to the people in a transparent manner.
Rapid expansion of highways, railways and air routes
The President also mentioned the expansion in the country's physical infrastructure. He said that there has been unprecedented expansion of modern infrastructure in the form of highways, waterways, railways and airways. According to the President, strong infrastructure is creating opportunities for new enterprises, creating employment and also increasing investor confidence.
