Health Desk. The prostate is a small gland of the male reproductive system, located below the urinary bladder. The risk of prostate problems may increase with increasing age. The special thing is that prostate cancer often does not give any obvious symptoms in the initial stages, hence it is not right to ignore the abnormal changes occurring in the body.
1. Frequent urination
If you start urinating more often than usual during the day or have to get up repeatedly to urinate, especially at night, then it should not be ignored. Although this symptom is not caused only by cancer, non-cancerous problems like enlarged prostate can also cause it.
2. Difficulty in starting urination
Despite having the desire to urinate, difficulty in starting it, straining or taking time to urinate can be a sign of prostate problem. If such problems persist, it is important to get checked by a doctor.
3. Intermittent urination
If the stream of urine has become weaker than before or urine comes intermittently, then this can also be a sign of prostate problem. There can be many reasons for such symptoms, so it is better to get medically examined rather than assuming it to be cancer on your own.
4. Blood in urine or semen
Seeing blood in urine or semen is a symptom that should not be taken lightly. This is not always a sign of prostate cancer, but it is important to consult a doctor immediately to find out its cause.
5. Persistent pain in waist, hip or pelvis
In case of growth or spread of prostate cancer, there may be persistent pain in the waist, hip or pelvis. If such pain persists for a long time without any apparent reason, medical examination is necessary. In advanced stages, symptoms like weight loss may also appear.
Every symptom does not mean cancer
It is important to understand that seeing the symptoms mentioned above does not mean that the person has prostate cancer. Other problems, such as enlarged prostate (BPH), inflammation of the prostate, or infection, can also cause similar symptoms. Therefore, instead of panicking, it is important to get the correct test done.
