The Chief Justice of the country (CJI) Surya Kant has given a big statement regarding his oral comments during the hearing of the Supreme Court on Friday. He said his statements given in the court were 'misrepresented' and later used with 'bad intentions' to mislead the youth of the country.

In an exclusive interview to DD News, CJI Surya Kant, while presenting his stand, said, “My remarks were misrepresented and misused. What was not said was shown as if it had been said. This is extremely unfortunate. In particular, this is a big and ill-intentioned conspiracy to instigate and mislead the youth of the country.”

Along with this, the CJI also expressed deep concern over small clips of court hearings going viral on social media without full context. He said that whether you are associated with social media, print media or just an ordinary citizen, we all have some rights and also have constitutional duties and responsibilities. He appealed and said that when we talk about rights, we should also remember our duties. We all have to work together to maintain brotherhood and harmony in the society.

What was the 'Cockroach' controversy and the whole matter?

This entire controversy started during a hearing held in the Supreme Court on 15 May 2026. Then CJI Surya Kant had allegedly compared some people holding fake degrees to 'cockroaches'. He had also said that such people target the existing system by becoming social media influencers or social activists.

After this comment came to light, there was a sharp reaction among the youth of the country. Amidst this protest, an online movement satirically named 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP) started on social media.

The movement which initially seemed to be just a satire, soon took the form of a major protest. Under the leadership of this organization, there was a fierce protest against the NEET-UG paper leak at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for more than a month. On July 20, a heated clash was witnessed between the protesting youth and the police, in which many people from both sides were injured. It was only after this all-round pressure and protests that the then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign from his post.
