In view of the kite flying season, the Environment Department has issued a strict warning against the use of Chinese Manjha and sharp synthetic Manjha. The sale, manufacture, storage, supply and use of banned Manja is completely banned in the capital. Those breaking the rules may have to face jail up to five years and a fine up to Rs 1 lakh.
Why is there a ban on Chinese Manja?
There is a risk of injury and death to humans as well as animals and birds due to sharp-edged synthetic, nylon and Chinese manjas. Apart from this, it is also considered harmful for the environment. Keeping this in mind, the administration has increased strictness against the banned Manja.

As per the instructions of the department, only cotton thread can be used for flying kites. This thread should be free from any kind of sharp glass, metal or chemical. Shopkeepers and common people have been appealed to completely avoid buying, selling and using banned Manja.
What will be the punishment for breaking the rules?
According to the notification, violation of the order will be considered a violation of the rules made under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. In such cases, under Section 15, the punishment can be imprisonment up to five years, fine up to Rs 1 lakh or both.
If a person or shopkeeper continues to violate the rule even after being punished, an additional fine of Rs 5,000 per day can be imposed against him.
