Manchester City are preparing a major move for Enzo Fernandez, with the Premier League champions ready to approach Chelsea with a €120 million offer for the Argentina midfielder.

A midfield reshuffle is under way at Manchester City under Enzo Maresca. The club have started reworking their squad after Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders agreed to leave for Saudi Arabia, and City have quickly lined up a replacement in Enzo Fernandez, who has long been viewed as a key target. The Argentine is available on the market, and Chelsea had been waiting for offers with today's deadline approaching. Now, at the last moment, the Citizens are close to sending in a huge bid.

Reijnders heading to Arabia

On Thursday night, Reijnders approved a transfer to Al-Qadsiah, the club where another former Serie A player, Mateo Retegui, is currently playing. The agreement is worth €61 million plus bonuses, and it will also enable Milan to receive up to €14 million from Manchester City.

Deadline for Enzo Fernandez

At the insistence of Maresca, Manchester City had already identified Enzo Fernandez as the ideal player for their style of football. However, Chelsea, unhappy with the situation, set a deadline for any club wanting to make a bid for him. That deadline runs out this afternoon, Friday, 14 August.

€120 million offer

Manchester City chose to wait until Reijnders' exit was fully confirmed. According to Sky Sport UK, they are now ready to send Chelsea a formal offer of massive value for the former Benfica midfielder. The proposed fee is expected to be around €120 million. Such a deal would also allow Chelsea to register a capital gain on the player, considering they spent about €125 million to sign him in London a few years ago.
