Independence Day: Today is 15th August. On this day in 1947 our country got independence. From then till now the Prime Minister of the country hoists the tricolor flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort. But do you know that there have been such Prime Ministers in the country also. Who never hoisted the tricolor flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The names of 2 Prime Ministers appear in this list. Who never addressed the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, because his short tenure had ended before 15th August. Every year on 15 August, the Prime Minister hoists the tricolor at the Red Fort of Delhi and addresses the nation.

This tradition dates back to August 15, 1947, when India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the national flag at the historical monument and delivered the Independence Day speech. The Prime Minister addresses from the Red Fort. The famous ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was given in the Constituent Assembly on the night of 14-15 August 1947. This speech was not given from the Red Fort. Since then, the address from the Red Fort has become one of the most special traditions of India’s Independence Day celebrations. Yet the two Prime Ministers never got a chance to address the nation from the Red Fort on 15 August.

PM Modi salutes the freedom fighters! Said – ‘His sacrifice will strengthen the resolve of ‘Developed India” Which Prime Minister did not address the nation from the Red Fort? The first name in this list is of Gulzari Lal Nanda. Who became the Prime Minister many times, but could not address even once from the Red Fort. Gulzari Lal Nanda served as acting Prime Minister twice. His first term began after Nehru’s death in May 1964 and lasted till June 9 of the same year.

After this, after the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, he again became the acting Prime Minister in January 1966. His second term ended on 24 January, when Indira Gandhi became Prime Minister. Both his terms were short and ended much before August 15. Therefore, while being the Prime Minister, Gulzari Lal Nanda never got the Independence Day and he did not get a chance to hoist the tricolor from the Red Fort or address the nation. Chandrashekhar also could not address the nation from the Red Fort.

Chandrashekhar became the Prime Minister on 10 November 1990. He was the head of a minority government which depended on the external support of the Congress. His government lasted only a few months. He resigned in March 1991, while his government continued in a caretaker role until 21 June. When Independence Day came on 15th August, Chandrashekhar was no longer the Prime Minister. Therefore, he never gave the traditional Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.
