New Delhi: Every Monday of Sawan is considered special for the worship of Lord Shiva, but this time the coincidence on 17th August 2026 is even more special. The festival of Nag Panchami is falling on the third Monday of Sawan. According to religious beliefs, offering a special flower on Shivalinga on this day brings blessings of Bholenath and increases happiness and prosperity in the house.

After the year 2023, this time again there is a coincidence of the third Monday of Sawan and Nag Panchami. This festival will be celebrated on 17th August. Auspicious and Shukla Yoga are also being formed on this day, due to which the importance of worship increases further. According to astrological beliefs, by doing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva on this special day and worshiping him as per the rituals, it is believed that the wishes will be fulfilled.

Offer blue colored Aparajita flower to Shivalinga.

In religious texts, there is mention of offering blue colored Aparajita flowers on Shivalinga on the occasion of Sawan Monday and Nag Panchami. It is also called blue flower. It is believed that offering it to Lord Shiva increases wealth and happiness and prosperity. It is also believed that bringing this Aparajita flower at home and using it in worship reduces financial problems. Offering this flower to Lord Shiva is believed to bring relief from debt and prosperity in life.

Auspicious time for worship and Jalabhishek on Nag Panchami

Many auspicious times have been suggested for Shiva puja and Jalabhishek on 17th August. Brahma Muhurta will be from 5:28 am to 6:07 am. Whereas Abhijit Muhurta is from 1:26 pm to 2:23 pm. Vijay Muhurta will be from 4:17 pm to 5:14 pm, while Amrit Kaal will be from 6:46 pm to 8:27 pm.

Religious belief of celebrating Nag Panchami

Nag Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Sawan Shukla Paksha. It is believed that worshiping the snake god on this day protects the family and maintains happiness and peace in the house. According to the legend, King Parikshit died due to the bite of Takshak snake. His son Janmejaya performed a snake sacrifice to take revenge from the snakes. When the process of burning of snakes started in the Yagya, sage Aastik arrived and stopped the Yagya and protected the snakes. The tradition of snake worship is believed to be linked to this incident.
