The biggest question arising in everyone's mind is that after the implementation of the next Pay Commission, what will be the minimum basic pay of the employees and how much will be the increase in their total salary?
But before discussing the new figures and expectations of the 8th Pay Commission, it is very interesting to know from where did the historical journey of this minimum basic salary, which has reached the level of Rs 18,000 today, begin?
The minimum basic salary of central employees has increased from just Rs 55 to Rs 18,000 per month in almost eight decades (80 years). Every new pay commission not only increased the salaries of the employees, but also completely changed the entire salary structure and method of determining the salaries of government employees.
1st Pay Commission: Before independence, salary was fixed at Rs 55
The country's first pay commission was implemented in the year 1946. That is, this well-organized system for determining the salaries of government employees had started just before India got independence.
Under the 1st Pay Commission, the minimum basic salary of employees was fixed at Rs 55 per month. At the same time, in the system of that time, the maximum basic pay was kept at Rs 2,000 per month.
2nd Pay Commission: Basic pay increased to Rs 80 in 1959
After this, the country's second pay commission came into effect in the year 1959. In the Second Pay Commission, the minimum basic pay was increased from Rs 55 to Rs 80 per month.
With the implementation of this commission, the maximum basic salary also increased to Rs 3,000 per month.

Till the implementation of the 3rd Pay Commission, a major improvement was seen in the minimum basic salary of the employees. This commission came into effect in the year 1973.
Under this, the minimum basic salary of employees increased to Rs 196 per month. At the same time, the maximum basic pay was fixed at Rs 3,500 per month. In just a few decades, the minimum basic pay of employees had increased from Rs 55 to almost Rs 200.
4th Pay Commission: Big jump in 1986, salary increased to Rs 750

During the Fifth Pay Commission implemented in the year 1996, there was a tremendous increase in the minimum basic salary of government employees.
In this commission, the minimum basic salary was directly increased from Rs 750 to Rs 2,550 per month. At the same time, under the Fifth Pay Commission, the maximum basic pay of the employees was fixed at Rs 26,000 per month.
6th Pay Commission: Minimum basic pay increased to Rs 7,000 in 2006
The Sixth Pay Commission came into effect in the year 2006. In this, a major change was made in the structure of pay band and pay scale of the employees.
Under this, the minimum basic pay was increased to Rs 7,000 per month. During this commission the maximum basic pay directly went up to Rs 80,000. That is, between the 5th to 6th Pay Commission, there was a revolutionary change in the entire pay structure of government employees.
7th Pay Commission: Minimum salary made Rs 18,000 in 2016
Now let us talk about the currently implemented 7th Pay Commission, which came into effect in the year 2016. Under this, the minimum basic salary of central employees was directly increased to Rs 18,000 per month.
At the same time, the maximum basic pay was fixed at Rs 2.5 lakh per month (for Cabinet Secretary level). However, the 7th Pay Commission was not only important for increasing the salary, but by implementing the Pay Matrix, the entire pay structure of the employees was made modern and transparent.
8th Pay Commission: Now what will be the new figure after Rs 18,000?
Now the biggest question among lakhs of employees and pensioners of the country remains that what is going to be the next figure after Rs 18,000?
At present, the official figure regarding what will be the minimum basic pay in the 8th Pay Commission has not been decided. The official figure of the new minimum basic salary will be revealed to the country only after the formal recommendations of the Commission come out and they get the final approval from the Central Government.
