According to a recent report from Foot Mercato, Manchester United are involved in a battle to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during this summer transfer window. The report adds that the Red Devils are set to face competition from Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for the Senegal international.

Camara put together an impressive spell of form for the French side last season, delivering a number of influential performances in the centre of the pitch. The 22-year-old scored three goals and registered four assists in 31 appearances for Monaco across all competitions last season.

The Senegalese talent is regarded as one of the most promising central midfielders in Ligue 1 at the moment. As a result, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United are considering a move to bring him in during this transfer period.

His current deal with the French club runs until the summer of 2029, and that could make it tough for the Red Devils to secure his services for a bargain fee this month.

At the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I match between France and Senegal at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on 16 June 2026, Lamine Camara, wearing the number 8 shirt for Senegal, was pictured crossing the ball while being challenged by Adrien Rabiot, who wore number 14 for France.

Camara enjoys making tackles and reads danger well enough to win possession back for his side inside his own half. He is also capable of clearing his lines when required and remains a reliable passer of the ball.

The Senegal midfield player can also contribute in the final third by scoring goals and creating important chances for his team from midfield. Camara is mainly a box-to-box midfielder, though he can also operate as a defensive midfielder when needed. However, only time will tell if he can cope with the high-intensity demands of the Premier League should the Red Devils succeed in signing him this summer.

Camara could bring greater aggression and solidity to Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick’s midfield options. He certainly has the ability to compete for a regular first-team place at Old Trafford over the next few seasons.

At 22, Camara still has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a sensible option for the Red Devils to target in this transfer window. Therefore, Carrick would do well to move for him sooner rather than later.
