Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to signing Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Tottenham Hotspur now appear set to bring in their second Liverpool player of the summer.
The Lilywhites began the transfer window by signing experienced full-back Andrew Robertson on a free transfer, several months after first attempting to prise him away in the winter window.
Now, Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle with Cody Gakpo over a switch from Anfield.
Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “all parties” view a move for Gakpo to Spurs as “very realistic”.
Blaauwhof's publication Voetbal International has also backed that up, reporting that an agreement in principle is in place.
The transfer fee is believed to be around £60 million for the 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool during the winter transfer window in 2023, while the Reds are still looking to sign Bradley Barcola as his replacement.
FourFourTwo understands that Spurs remain interested in signing Savinho as well, and could potentially use him on the opposite flank.
Gakpo has enjoyed a fairly successful spell on Merseyside, winning the Premier League title and establishing himself as one of the better players in the Netherlands setup during his time in English football.
The arrival of Barcola would, however, make his role more complicated, and with Liverpool also having players such as Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha on the left wing, there appears to be a clearer route for him to thrive under Roberto De Zerbi.
Blaauwhof has described De Zerbi as wanting “Gakpo all the way” for the left-wing role.
Spurs have been active in this transfer window, bringing in players such as Jan Paul van Hecke, Matheus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali from Premier League rivals, but there is still uncertainty over who will fill the forward positions for De Zerbi.
Dominic Solanke has struggled with persistent injury issues since arriving, while Richarlison has gone through spells of poor form.
According to Transfermarkt, Gakpo is valued at €60 million. Liverpool open their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United next weekend.
