Ranchi. Political turmoil regarding the student movement intensified in Jharkhand on the occasion of 80th Independence Day. Devendra Nath Mahato, leader of Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha (JLKM) and one of the prominent faces of the student movement, alleged that the police stopped him from joining the Tiranga Yatra organized at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. Mahato has been on fast unto death for the last 14 days.
Mahato is on fast unto death since August 2-
Devendra Nath Mahato had started an indefinite hunger strike from August 2 against alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital after his condition deteriorated during the Ranchi Assembly siege march. During this time, the police lathi-charged the protesters and water cannon along with tear gas was also used.
Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium is currently the main protest site of the student movement, where a large number of students are protesting against transparency and alleged irregularities in the recruitment examinations.
Mahato's allegation- Police deployed outside the room-
On the occasion of Independence Day, Mahato had expressed his desire to participate in the Tiranga Yatra from the hospital. He alleges that after this a large number of police forces were deployed outside his hospital room.
Mahato wrote on social media that he wanted to participate in the flag hoisting and Tiranga Yatra at the protest site. Raising the question, he said, “What kind of freedom is this after all? Are we not free to hoist the tricolor flag in our own country and participate in the Tiranga Yatra?”
He said that despite the adverse circumstances, he wanted to participate in the Independence Day program in a peaceful manner.
CM Soren gave confidence on JPSC-JSSC-
On the other hand, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren presented the government's side regarding youth and recruitment examinations in the Independence Day celebrations. He said that the government is working to ensure transparency in the examinations of institutions like JPSC and JSSC.
CM Soren said that the youth of the state and their faith in the government is very important. He said that the government has started the initiative 'Students' Talk – With Students', through which suggestions are being sought from students for improving the education system.
Also accused of trying to weaken the movement-
Devendra Nath Mahato had earlier appealed to the hospital to beware of alleged attempts to weaken the movement by issuing messages in the name of students. He alleged that about a month after the movement started, some outside elements are trying to divert it and divide it into different parts.
He appealed to the protesting students to keep the movement united.
Students will not raise demands on Independence Day
At the same time, student leader Ravindra Paswan said that the agitating students will not present their demands before the government on Independence Day. He said that on the 80th Independence Day, students will only talk about the country's independence and its glory.
Devendra Nath Mahato's hunger strike amid the ongoing student agitation over alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations and the allegation of allegedly stopping him from participating in the Tiranga Yatra has once again heated up the politics of Jharkhand.
