Lucid is well known for pushing electric-vehicle innovation while packaging its engineering in sleek, attractive designs. On Thursday, the California-based start-up is extending that run with the launch of the newest version of its battery-powered three-row SUV, now producing more than 1000 horsepower.

The Lucid Gravity made its debut in November 2024, and it quickly earned praise for its plush cabin, comfortable ride and other qualities. But Lucid has consistently aimed to strike a balance between luxury and performance, and this latest version of the Gravity leans more heavily towards the thrilling side of that equation. Officially called the Lucid Gravity GT-S, the rounded SUV restores the output of up to 1070 horsepower previously seen in the now-discontinued Dream Edition, while delivering a claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds.

Even before the arrival of the GT-S, the Gravity was hardly lacking in pace. Grand Touring versions of the Gravity produce 828 horsepower, 909 lb-ft of torque and can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Even the entry-level Touring model comes with 560 horsepower. Still, four-digit horsepower had until now been reserved for the Dream Edition launched alongside the vehicle, a special edition limited to just 450 units.

Lucid is not concentrating only on straight-line performance. The Gravity GT-S gets a new Dynamic Handling Package that brings independent rear-wheel steering and an adaptive three-chamber air suspension that lowers the vehicle at speed. “With Lucid Gravity GT-S, we've created a more expressive and exhilarating interpretation of the Gravity SUV,” said Derek Jenkins, chief creative officer at Lucid. “It combines extraordinary performance with the comfort, space, and versatility that define Gravity, delivering an exceptional experience for our customers that is uniquely Lucid.”

On the outside, Gravity GT-S models set themselves apart with blue accents and painted blue brake calipers. Lucid has carried that azul-inspired theme into the cabin as well; the Mojave PurLuxe Premium interior includes blue stitching and piping across the first and second rows, blue seatbelts, and blue stitching on the steering wheel, door armrests and front centre armrest.

Whatever their fondness for cerulean trim, Lucid’s intended buyer for the Gravity GT-S is clearly a wealthy one: the SUV starts at $127,750, including an $1850 destination and delivery charge. It is undeniably a substantial sum, but the dollar-per-horsepower value looks fairly generous, especially when compared with the $250,000, 1234-hp Lucid Air Sapphire. The obvious next question is whether a Gravity Sapphire will follow.
