Tamil actor Vishal has been struggling to regain his form for quite some time. While one of his recent films managed to make some money in the Tamil market, he lost his market in Telugu long ago. Once a popular star in Telugu market with blockbusters such as “Pandem Kodi,” Vishal’s recent films have largely failed to attract Telugu audiences.
However, the opening of his latest film “Magudam,” released as Makutam in Telugu, has come as a major shock and underlines the decline in his market.
Magudam was released worldwide in both Tamil and Telugu. The Tamil version received largely negative reviews, while the Telugu version received very little attention from the media or audiences.
What makes the result more significant is that Magudam marks Vishal’s maiden directorial venture, with the actor also playing the lead role. Anjali is one of the female leads.
According to box-office tracking reports, Magudam opened to less than Rs 1 crore gross in India on its first day. The combined gross of the Tamil and Telugu versions is reportedly around Rs 90 lakh, making it one of the weakest openings of Vishal’s career.
The disappointing numbers indicate how sharply Vishal’s theatrical market has declined.
