On the occasion of Independence Day, Bhagwant Mann government honored the members of village and ward defense committees who contributed to the 'War Against Drugs' campaign. A systematic two-week action and review process was initiated with felicitation ceremonies. It will conclude with a state level review meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister on August 31.

In order to take this initiative of Bhagwant Mann government to all levels of governance, 'Yudh Nashean Virudh' activities will be prominently included in all the celebrations on national days and other important government occasions. The decision in this regard was taken at a state level function organized under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on August 2.

Honored across the state for contribution

Under this initiative, the best members of Village Defense Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defense Committees (WDCs) were honored across the state for their remarkable contribution in Punjab's fight against drugs. This honor will become an important medium to encourage those who are working at the community level to make Punjab a drug-free state.

At the district level, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated the Assembly Coordinators and Vice Assembly Coordinators, while at the sub-division level, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) felicitated the Block Coordinators. At the village level, special programs were organized in various schools and Gram Panchayats, where Sarpanch and community members felicitated the Gram Raksha Samiti members for their efforts towards building a drug-free Punjab.

Deputy Commissioners of all 23 districts have been instructed to identify eligible Village and Ward Defense Committee members for contribution and active participation in furthering the objectives of 'Yudh Nashean Viruddh'. This recognition campaign is part of a comprehensive plan issued by the office of the State Nodal Officer for Anti-Drug Campaign. The plan envisages a comprehensive campaign lasting two weeks, with the aim of making community feedback a part of regular administrative and police reviews.

Will give new suggestions and feedback

From 16 to 25 August, meetings of Village Defense Committees will be organized in every village. During these meetings, the committees will review the complaints to drug trafficking, examine the action taken by the police and administration on past complaints, monitor the status of pending cases and give new suggestions and feedback.

After this this process will proceed at the district level. Between August 26 and 29, Cabinet ministers will chair district-level review meetings; In which administration and police officers as well as representatives of the health department and district, assembly and block level coordinators will be included. The feedback received from the villages will be reviewed in the meetings and further action will be decided.
