Nature has wreaked terrible devastation in the hilly state of Arunachal Pradesh in North-East India. Due to continuous torrential monsoon rains, cloud bursts and severe landslides at many places, mountain rivers and storm drains suddenly came into spate. This devastating flood and flow of debris has caused huge devastation in the coastal and border areas. The biggest accident happened when a forward camp of the Indian Army was completely washed away due to the sudden flood. So far, the tragic death of 4 local civilians has been confirmed in this tragic natural disaster, while 5 army personnel are missing after being swept away in the floods. After the incident, teams of state administration, army, NDRF and SDRF have started search and rescue operations on war footing. Flood of water and stones came due to cloud burst: Military camp was washed away. According to information received from local administration and military sources, there was heavy rain like cloud burst in the early morning in the remote hilly and inaccessible area, after which huge amount of water, mud and huge rocks came rolling down from the hills. Sudden increase in water level: The water level in the nearby mountain river rose to a record level within a few minutes, affecting the military establishments and camps located on the banks. Tents and bunkers were washed away: The flow of water was so strong that the tents, essential equipment and vehicles of the camp were washed away in the flood. During this time, 5 soldiers on duty went missing in the strong current of water. Search operation intensified: With the help of special army divers, army helicopters and sniffer dogs, a major search and rescue operation is being conducted to search for the missing soldiers in the entire river area and debris piles. Devastation in civilian areas: 4 people dead and dozens of houses destroyed. The impact of this devastating flood coming from the frozen mountains was not limited only to the military bases, but terrible devastation was also seen in the lower residential villages. Debris entered the houses: In many settlements, mud and water suddenly entered the houses of sleeping people, due to which 4 people lost their lives due to getting buried and flowing. Roads and bridges collapsed: Many major mountain link roads, culverts and national highways have been broken due to landslides, due to which dozens of border villages have been completely cut off from the district headquarters. Electricity and telecom disrupted: Electric poles and mobile towers have been uprooted due to strong winds and water flow, completely disrupting communication systems in the disaster-hit areas. Relief and rescue operations on war footing: Red alert issued. Disaster Management Department and local administration teams are busy removing the debris using boats and earthmover machines (JCB) and shifting the stranded villagers to safe relief camps. The state government has announced emergency relief and financial assistance for the affected families. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours in many districts of the state and has issued a strict warning to people to stay away from rivers, drains and landslide-prone slopes.
