Country. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is likely to make his first official visit to India between August 20 and 25. According to reports, officials of both the countries are in continuous talks to finalize the date and program of this possible visit. However, the visit has not been officially confirmed yet.

Possibility of agreement on these two dates-
According to diplomatic sources, both sides are interested in a bilateral meeting between India and Bangladesh. At present the dates of August 20-21 and August 21-22 are being considered. The final date is yet to be decided.

Sources say that top officials of both the countries are close to finalizing the date of the visit between August 20 and 25.

The final decision will be taken after the return of the High Commissioner-
The final date of the visit is expected to be decided after Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi returns to Dhaka to take up his duties. At present, no official announcement has been made by the Ministry of External Affairs of India regarding the possible visit of Prime Minister Tariq Rehman to India.

The stir increased after the Modi-Rahman meeting-
Diplomatic activities regarding a possible visit to India intensified when Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 11. A day before this, he had also held a meeting with Prime Minister Tariq Rahman in Dhaka.

If the visit goes ahead, it will be Tariq Rehman's first official visit to India after assuming the post of Prime Minister in February. This visit is being considered very important in view of the recent tense relations between the two countries.

The issue of Sheikh Hasina's extradition is also important-
The issue of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also remains important in India-Bangladesh relations. In the recent meeting between the Indian High Commissioner and Tariq Rahman, Bangladesh expressed hope that India would expedite the process of Sheikh Hasina's extradition.

Sheikh Hasina has been living in India since her ouster from power following the student movement in 2024. In such a situation, during Tariq Rehman's possible visit to India, this issue can become an important part of the talks between the two countries.

Controversy also over Hasina's virtual press conference-
Meanwhile, diplomatic discussions were also held between India and Bangladesh regarding a virtual press conference of Sheikh Hasina from New Delhi on August 5. Dhaka had raised objections regarding the programme.

India distanced itself from the event and clarified that it was organized by a private media organization and the government had no role in it. The Ministry of External Affairs had also said that the Government of India has no connection or endorsement with the views expressed in the programme.

In such a situation, if Tariq Rehman's visit to India is decided, then this visit is being considered very important in terms of normalizing bilateral relations, extradition of Sheikh Hasina and talks on pending issues between the two countries.
