You could hardly ask for a better way to open your account.

Niklas Dorsch, Toronto FC’s newest midfielder, made an emphatic first impression on the BMO Field crowd as he fired home the match-winning screamer in a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution in his home debut on Saturday.

Dorsch’s spectacular effort carried added importance as it ended TFC’s 12-match winless run in league action.

“It was fantastic," head coach Robin Fraser said after the match. "I thought he covered a ton of ground, and you could tell he was pretty tired toward the end, and he just wouldn't stop running, wouldn't stop going.

"I thought it was a really good performance, obviously, capped off by a fantastic goal."

Only in his second outing for Toronto, the former Bayern Munich youth product, who arrived for a reported transfer fee of $4.2 million, showed exactly why the club brought him in with a brilliant strike that secured a crucial three points.

Without a league win since 4 April, the Reds finally got the result they needed, one that could give them some breathing space as they push for a place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs.

"Sometimes games like this are what you need to kickstart your season," Fraser continued. "Because I just think so many times in my playing career and coaching career, where you go through a rough patch, and you have a game that you just commit to each other, and your determination is what makes the difference, and then from there, you kick on to good things."

Dorsch forging a link with fellow midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, who supplied the assist for the winner, will be an encouraging sign for Toronto fans as the club tries to claw its way back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

However, Mihailovic was shown a red card by referee Joe Dickerson in the 76th minute. That means he will miss Wednesday’s home clash against Charlotte FC (7:30 pm ET | Apple TV).
