A large-scale campaign is being run in Uttar Pradesh for the protection and maintenance of destitute cattle. More than seven and a half thousand cow shelters have been developed in the state, in which more than 12 lakh cows are protected. The main objective of this campaign is to reduce the damage caused to farmers' crops by stray animals and to provide safe shelter to the cattle. Yogi government has also increased the amount of assistance given for the maintenance of cows. The amount received per day per cow has been increased from Rs 30 to Rs 50. At the same time, arrangements for monitoring through CCTV cameras have also been made at most of the cow shelters.
About 1.85 lakh cattle were handed over to 1.15 lakh cattle herders.
To increase participation of common people in cow protection, Chief Minister Partnership Scheme and Nutrition Mission have also been taken forward. Under this, about 1.85 lakh cattle have been handed over to about 1.15 lakh cattle herders. With this, along with providing family-based protection to the cattle, cattle herders have also got an opportunity to join it. Uttar Pradesh is the state with the largest livestock population in the country and also ranks first in the country in milk production. The government is now emphasizing on developing this potential as a major means of increasing rural income and employment.
Steps taken from cow shed to cow based industry
The government's strategy is to gradually connect cow shelters with economic activities. In different areas of the state, products like cow-wood, cow-paint, vermicompost, incense sticks, incense sticks, pots and lamps are being prepared from cow dung. Along with this, products like Panchgavya, Ghanamrit and Jeevamrit are also being promoted. Participation of women self-help groups is being increased in these activities. Due to this, self-employment opportunities are being created for women in the villages themselves. The cow dung which was earlier seen as a common waste, is now becoming a source of income through fertiliser, energy and various products.

Gaushalas of every district will be evaluated
Uttar Pradesh Cow Seva Aayog has taken the initiative to comprehensively evaluate the capacity of cow shelters in the state. The objective behind this is to develop cow-based economic activities according to the local conditions and available resources of different districts.
The plan is that if the potential of biogas from cow dung is better in a district then emphasis should be given on it, while in other districts units of organic manure, cow-wood or cow urine based products should be developed. The government aims to link cow conservation with local employment and create new sources of income in villages.
