New Delhi : The reduction in inflation brought some relief to the common man. Country wholesale inflationThe rate has come down slightly to 9.78 percent in July from 9.87 percent in June. The wholesale price index of all goods stood at 110.0 in July, compared with 110.2 in June, according to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday. However, inflation is still high.
According to government data, wholesale inflation registered a slight decline in July on a year-on-year basis, reaching 9.78 percent as against 9.87 percent in June. This means the inflation rate has come down by around 0.09 percent. Wholesale inflation statistics are divided into three major components. Meanwhile, primary commodity inflation rose to 8.52 percent in July from 7 percent in June. Accordingly, inflation of manufactured goods rose to 8.29 percent from 7.48 percent.
Increasing pressure on food
Foodstuffs also played a significant role in wholesale inflation. In July, the wholesale price index food inflation rate was 6.65 percent as against 6.14 percent in June. This means food inflation has increased. According to government data, food items, non-food items, basic metals, food products and chemical products played a significant role in the increase in wholesale inflation in July.
Inflation skyrocketed
From the kitchen to your pocket, inflationary pressures seem to be mounting once again. The figures released by the government have raised the concern of the general public. The country's retail inflation rate (CPI) rose to 4.45% in July from 4.38% in June. While the figure was slightly lower than economists' estimate of 4.50%, it was still consistently above the Reserve Bank of India's fixed target of 4%.
