New Delhi, 16 August 2026: World number one chess player Magnus Carlsen has won the e-Sports World Cup title for the second consecutive time. In the final played in Paris, France, Carl defeated Grandmaster Denis Lazavik of Belarus 2-0.
35-year-old Norwegian player Carlsen, representing 'Team Liquid', remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura won the third place by defeating Alireza Firozja 4-1 in the bronze medal match. The competition was interrupted several times due to technical glitches and interruptions in internet connection.
A three-set structure was adopted for this championship. Four games were played in each of the first two sets, while the final set was of two games and a tie-breaker was to be played if necessary.
