Kolkata. Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep grief over the demise of senior Trinamool Congress leader and former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Ashish Banerjee. On Sunday, Ashish Banerjee was found hanging in the party office of Birbhum district. He had been MLA from Rampurhat assembly seat five times.
After his death, allegations and counter-allegations have intensified in the politics of West Bengal. Several TMC leaders have accused the BJP and a section of the media of allegedly running a defamatory campaign against Ashish Banerjee.
Mamta Banerjee said- Constant pressure was created-
Mamata Banerjee said that Ashish Banerjee was repeatedly defamed and false allegations of corruption were leveled against him. He claimed that Ashish was under constant mental and emotional pressure.
Mamta said that Ashish was a grassroots leader and had a deep connection with the people of his assembly constituency and Birbhum. As a five-time MLA, former Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, he worked for the development of Rampurhat.
'Think about the human cost of political enmity'-
Mamata Banerjee said that despite Ashish Banerjee's long public life, the alleged harassment and mental pressure he faced needed to be seriously considered.
He said that this incident also raises questions about the human cost of political rivalry. Mamta described Ashish as a leader dedicated to education and public service and said that his absence will always be felt.
Abhishek Banerjee targeted BJP and a section of media-
TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee also reacted to the incident through a social media post. He accused BJP and a section of media of tarnishing the image of Ashish Banerjee.
Abhishek said that accusing a person without any evidence and holding him guilty in the court of public opinion is very serious and dangerous. He said that there should be a limit to political and journalistic battles, because political conflicts can end, but no one's life can be brought back.
Suicide note found near the dead body-
According to the police, a suicide note has come to light near the body of Ashish Banerjee. In this, he reportedly said that coming into politics was his mistake and wrote about not being involved in corruption.
However, police investigation is ongoing regarding the circumstances of the incident and the authenticity of the suicide note. The complete picture will become clear only on the basis of the facts emerging in the case.
Shubhendu Adhikari also expressed concern-
BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari also reacted to the incident and expressed apprehension that some corrupt people within TMC may have intimidated or blackmailed Ashish Banerjee. He also mentioned his cordial relations with Ashish Banerjee despite political differences.
After the death of Ashish Banerjee, political rhetoric has intensified and all eyes are on the police investigation of the case.
