Yogi government's focus on road safety has continuously increased amid the ever increasing number of vehicles in Uttar Pradesh. He has been giving necessary instructions to the departments on various occasions towards zero mortality rate. Its effect is also visible in the enforcement action of the Transport Department regarding compliance with the rules to road safety. A compounding fee (fine) of Rs 474 crore has been collected in the last financial year and Rs 172 crore in the current financial year.
More than 20 lakh challans were also issued
More than 20 lakh challans have also been issued during this period. Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) KD Singh Gaur said that it is an important responsibility of the transport department to ensure safe movement on the road and follow traffic rules. In this sequence, the enforcement team of the department launched a campaign across the state against the drivers ignoring the rules. The aim of the action is not just to collect fines, but to make drivers responsible towards traffic rules and strengthen road safety.
Compounding fee of Rs 474 crore recovered
In the financial year 2025-26, the enforcement team of the Transport Department issued about 15 lakh challans across the state. Through these actions, a compounding fee of Rs 474 crore was recovered. This represents a large-scale enforcement action to ensure compliance with road rules.
At the same time, about 5 lakh challans have been issued in the first four months of the current financial year 2026-27. A compounding fee of Rs 172 crore has been received from these actions. It is clear from this that the monitoring and enforcement action of the Transport Department regarding road safety is continuing.
To increase discipline towards traffic rules
According to the Transport Department, the broad objective of this strictness is to increase discipline among drivers towards traffic rules. Following the rules helps in effective control of situations like overspeeding on the road, driving without necessary documents, carrying passengers or goods beyond capacity and violation of other traffic rules. For safe traffic, equal participation of drivers and common citizens is necessary. The enforcement action of the Transport Department is working to strengthen this sense of responsibility. This effort can play an important role in taking the state towards the goal of zero mortality rate.
