Manchester United played their final pre-season game in Poland yesterday.

The Red Devils would have been looking for a confidence-boosting win, and that appeared to be on the cards when they were leading 2-1 after 55 minutes.

However, a remarkable collapse over the final 30 minutes allowed AC Milan to come away as 4-2 winners against Michael Carrick’s team.

The result would have been even more frustrating for United because it was their former manager, Ruben Amorim, who inflicted the damage.

The Portuguese coach spent 14 turbulent months in charge of the club, a period in which they finished 15th in the table.

He did guide them to a Europa League final, but they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025 edition.

Amorim was eventually sacked in January 2026 following poor results and a falling-out with certain players as well as sporting director Jason Wilcox.

Speaking after the match, Amorim struck a reflective tone and remained guarded when asked about his old club.

According to comments carried by the Daily Mail, the head coach said, “It’s a normal game. Since I signed with Milan, I haven’t felt anything about Manchester United. I’m just proud to have been at Manchester United and I still love Manchester United, but after signing with Milan, I don’t feel anything negative about anything because I’m very happy.”

Speaking further about his new club, he added, “I’m where I should be. So I just want to continue here. I wanted to win a game in pre-season to give our fans a good image.”

In addition, Amorim was greeted by some English journalists and jokingly asked them whether they missed him.

One of them replied, “we miss your press conferences,” to which he laughed and responded, “they’re more boring now!”
