New Delhi: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman's visit to India is now stuck over the issue of Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh government has made it clear that Rahman will not come to Delhi until India hands over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka.

Bangladesh placed a blunt condition

On Sunday, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry spokesperson AKM Shahidul Karim issued a statement. He said officials of both the countries were talking about Rahman's visit to India for the last few weeks. But the atmosphere has changed after Sheikh Hasina's press conference in New Delhi on August 5.

Kareem said, "We believe that it is important to create a conducive environment for this high-level visit." Bangladesh cited bilateral extradition treaty with India to arrest Sheikh Hasina and others. "fugitive criminals" There has been a demand to hand it over soon.

Bangladesh has also asked for the return of two accused in the murder of political activist Usman Hadi. In March, the STF of West Bengal Police had arrested both of them from Bangaon in North 24 Parganas.

Dhaka angry with Hasina's press conference

International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh (ICT) has convicted Sheikh Hasina. Despite this, Dhaka is angry with his open press conference in New Delhi. Bangladesh says that this has strained the relations between the two countries. On behalf of India, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Hasina's press conference has nothing to do with the government. The extradition request is under investigation.

BRICS conference invitation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Tariq Rehman to the session of BRICS summit to be held in Delhi on 12-13 September. India is hosting BRICS this year.

Rahman has been given this invitation as the current Chairman of BIMSTEC. BIMSTEC includes India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan. Now Bangladesh has attached this invitation with a condition. That means Rehman will come to join BRICS only if India sends back Hasina.

New sourness in relationships

It is noteworthy that Sheikh Hasina had left Bangladesh and come to India after the student movement in August last year. Since then the issue of extradition has remained a cause of tension between the two countries.

On one hand, India wants to increase trade and regional cooperation with Bangladesh. On the other hand, Dhaka is calling Hasina's return as its biggest priority. Now it remains to be seen whether both the countries are able to find a way out of this impasse before the BRICS conference.

Indian government made it clear

The Government of India has clarified that the Government of India has nothing to do with the press conference given by Sheikh Hasina. India's Foreign Ministry said that India has received a request from Bangladesh regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina.
