Digital Desk, New Delhi. The conflict between government forces and Houthi rebels in Yemen seems to be intensifying once again. The Yemeni government army claimed on Sunday that it carried out 181 military operations in Houthi-held areas in the last 24 hours. Drones, cannon and rocket launchers were used in these actions.

Houthi positions and weapons were targeted

Government army spokesman Major General Majid al-Nuzaili gave this information on social media platform X. He said that during the operation, Houthi positions, weapons stores, military vehicles and facilities that were being used for attacks were targeted.

According to the spokesman, several members of the Houthi group have been killed or injured in the military action. It has also been claimed that military equipment of the rebels has been destroyed in seven provinces. However, the army has not given the exact number of those killed or injured.

Campaign started in response to the attacks

The Yemeni army says the action was taken in response to recent Houthi attacks on government troops, civilian infrastructure, economic facilities and ports. The army said the security situation in government-controlled areas continues to be challenging due to Houthi attacks.

At the same time, Houthi rebels claimed to have targeted Marib city, the capital of oil-rich Marib province, on Saturday evening. According to pro-government media, three ballistic missiles were fired in the direction of residential areas of the city.

According to state-run Sabah TV, there were no initial reports of any casualties or major damage in the attack. However, local people said that during the missile attacks, loud explosions were heard in different parts of the city.

Saudi Arabia also became a target

Houthi rebels have stepped up missile and drone attacks in recent weeks against government-controlled areas of Yemen, as well as targets in neighboring Saudi Arabia, according to reports. Saudi Arabia is a major supporter of Yemen’s government.

The Houthi group announced a maritime blockade of Saudi ships on July 20. After this the organization also claimed to target Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea and energy installations inside Saudi Arabia.

Yemen’s conflict continues since 2014

The conflict between the Houthis and the government in Yemen has continued since late 2014. During that time, Houthi rebels had captured large parts of northern Yemen. The capital Sana’a was also included in this.

This was followed by a military intervention in 2015 by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition in support of the Yemeni government. Yemen is going through a serious humanitarian and economic crisis in this conflict that has been going on for years. Recent military actions are likely to increase tension in the region once again.
