New Delhi: The political turmoil in the country's politics has intensified over the term 'brainy Maoist' used in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech. Amidst the continuous attacks by the opposition, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju took the lead on Sunday and clarified the situation. Rijiju claimed that the Prime Minister in his address had not called any opposition leader of Naxalite mentality. By sharing the post on social media, he explained that this category includes those who directly or indirectly support Maoism, disregard the Constitution, advocate the restoration of Article 370 and stand with those who intend to separate the 'Chicken's Neck' corridor, challenging the integrity of the country.

Explained the intention of PM's speech

This entire controversy started after the Prime Minister's address given from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Saturday. PM Modi had praised the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the security of the country.

PM Modi had said that the country has been freed from armed Naxalism to a great extent, but 'brainy Naxalites' are still active in different parts of the society and system.

Opposition attack and new round of debate

PM Modi had said that Maoist thinking has had an influence in public life and government committees for many decades. Armed Naxalites may have been eliminated, but this thinking continues to mislead the youth and take the country in the wrong direction, which is very important to identify and isolate. Rijiju claimed that the Prime Minister in his address had not called any opposition leader of Naxalite mentality. Immediately after this statement of the Prime Minister, various opposition parties including Congress attacked the Central Government.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh reacted sharply and termed this statement as completely hollow political rhetoric. He said that words like 'mindful Naxal' have no real basis and it is merely a political attempt to rekindle old debates like 'urban Naxal'. The opposition alleges that the government is trying to target those with ideological differences and critics through such statements. This recent comment of Rijiju has brought this debate to a new turn.
