Chandigarh. On Sunday, a group of 55 farmers will leave for Delhi from Khanauri border on behalf of United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political). This ‘Kisan Bachao Ped Yatra’ of farmers will start from Gurudwara Datawala located in Datasinghwala. This group will reach Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 29 after traveling a distance of about 228 kilometers.

During this journey, the soil from the place of death of Shubhakaran Singh, who lost his life in the farmers’ movement, will also be taken with him to Delhi. A one day Kisan Panchayat will be organized at Jantar Mantar. After this, efforts will be made to submit the demand letter to the demands of the farmers to the Central Government. Farmer leaders have made it clear that the yatra will be completely peaceful. One farmer in the group will mainly walk on foot, while some other farmers will stay with him and pick up the necessary items. Halts will be made at different places on the way and the group will move towards Delhi in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, strict security arrangements have been made by the administration at Khanauri border. Five layers of barricading has been done to stop the farmers by sealing the border. The police and administration are on alert in view of the farmers’ march to Delhi.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that farmers are not in favor of any kind of conflict. He said that there are a limited number of farmers in the group and neither a large crowd nor tractor-trolleys are involved. Farmers will go to Delhi on foot peacefully and the government will not be given any chance for confrontation. Dallewal said that if the government also stops the farmers going on foot peacefully, then the attitude of the government will become clear. He said that earlier the farmers were told to go to Delhi on foot and now the farmers are traveling on foot.

Farmer leaders have also opposed the India-US trade deal. He says that this agreement can have a serious impact on the country’s economy and farmers. Through the foot march, the voice of opposition to this trade deal along with the issues of farmers will also be conveyed to the Central Government. According to farmer leaders, the main objective of the yatra is to remember the sacrifice of Shubhakaran Singh during the farmers’ movement and to convey the demands of the farmers to the central government in a peaceful manner.
